What to do if you’re not happy with your cosmetic surgery

Dissatisfaction over the cosmetic surgery’s outcome and doubt over the decision to have it can be overwhelming. Many cosmetic surgeons will provide its members with an emotional checklist to use during recovery as a reminder that many of the discomforts and disappointing visual factors which are upsetting you are very temporary.

In the case of liposuction, this list includes things like bruising and swelling, in a breast reduction or augmentation, it is the uneven appearance in the breast in the days immediately following surgery. Whatever your individual case, make sure you know the emotional signposts for your specific situation, and try to acknowledge that feeling and move on.

Depression after cosmetic surgery is a serious condition and should never be taken for granted. If you find it impossible to overcome on your own, seek professional assistance. Remember that what you are experiencing is completely normal, and get help. You should speak to your cosmetic surgeon in the first instance and they will be able to provide useful advice and if needed refer you onto a specialist.
